What do you think of white lies?

Even if many people are going to say that a lie is a lie,
I don't think all of them would really answer the question like
"does this dress make me look fat?" with YES.
It's complicated, on one side we're taught that a lie is something bad.
But on the other side, there are so many situations in life where a quick lie won't hurt anyone but makes life so much easier.
