How are you going to answer if one day your student ask you why do they learn English? What for?

I ask this question because I think one day some students may ask in the future especially the ones who don't like English. I asked my teacher when I was young but answer wasn't help. So maybe some of us here would know how to answer this question.

I will answer them that English is International language.
Most of people in the world use it and we have to know about that.
Especially,AEC is coming. We have to speak English.
If we can't speak English,we can't communicate with other people.

Of course, there are some simple reasons for studying English.
For example, English is useful for traveling or for giving directions to foreign tourists.
But having an entire generation of young people study English for several years seems a lot of effort just so they can give directions or ask for a coke in a restaurant in Hawaii. A good phrase book will give most people all the English they need for travel or giving directions.

i would love to answer this question to my student that the reason why i decided to study
English because i love English. some would ask "how can you know you love English" and of course
i don't have the answer about that, just like when you love someone, there's no reason for you why you fall for that person. For me, i love English might because it can take me my desire place, it help me to read the book i want to read and most of the reason, it open up my mind.

The reason why we have to learn English is communication.
English is language. We use language for communication with other people.
Now, most of people in the world often use English. To contact with other people, we have to use English. This is the common reason why learning English is important.

I would like to change my students to have a good attitude in English subject.
